Aluminum Connecting Rods offer the benefit of absorbing vibration and load that may cause a steel rod to bend or break. While they are sometimes lighter than steel rods, the real benefit comes from the increase in abuse they can handle over a steel rod.
The downside to an aluminum rod is that the steel rod will live longer, however the aluminum rod will usually live as long as the aluminum piston is attached to, so if the engine has to come apart to replace pistons, you will replace rods at the same time when using an aluminum rod.
These rods use a smaller rod journal that is specifically designed to be used with a crank that uses a smaller journal as well. The smaller journal means you can use a smaller bearing, which means less bearing speed. Slowing the bearing speed down gives the engine a better chance at living longer. So make sure when buying these rods, that you will be using a crank that has honda journals instead of standard toyota journals.
